We have left a page specially for this marvelous and easily accessible island just north of Isla Mujeres by boat.
Isla Contoy is very small, it is only 5 miles long and in places very thin it has a coast to the rough Caribbean sea, and one coast is protected by the island itself and it is here that laggons exist and many species of birds nest all year round, and in the winter months many other migrating species come to spend here in this yucatecan island three of four months.
Two distinctively marine environments gather here, one the strong Gulf of Mexico currents and the south north Caribbean Sea current through the Channel of Yucatan and Cuba. This allows for very rich and very varied fishing grounds and also is perfect for lobster fishing.
Contoy Island is a natural paradise for nature lovers, and for those seeking a new adventure in a very different tropical setting. |
